Christian Teen Changing the Face of the Pro-Life Movement
Live Action. No, it’s not the name for an instant sports replay, but rather a group of high school and college students and young professionals taking action on one of the biggest issues today, abortion. This non-profit group is getting down and dirty, exposing what really happens in abortion clinics.
Live Action president Lila Rose started the group at the young age of fifteen with four of her high school friends in San Jose, California. Their vision has helped it develop into a non-profit organization with several chapters in California as well as some national outreach. “We focus on using media and independent media and doing the investigative journalism with cameras, with recorders to really document the abuse and then we package it in a way the public understands what it’s about. We are young people talking to young people,” explained Rose. Live Action is not being directed by a senator or city council member, but rather by young people who are ready to stand up for what is right. Live Action’s different approach to uncovering the truth is grabbing national attention. Rose has appeared on the O‘Reilly Factor on Fox News where she presented her case for the pro-life movement and Live Action’s efforts to expose what really goes on at abortion clinics.
Even though Rose has been heading Live Action for six years, she still encounters many difficulties in being undercover. “We are going into the abortion clinics where we know that innocent lives are being violently destroyed, where women are being lied to, where women are being manipulated… so that is very difficult to be so close to that,” said Rose. Rose is continually shocked every time she enters the abortion clinics. “For me, what is so shocking to see again and again in the abortion clinics is the disregard for the rights of women. The mothers of these children’s lives are manipulated while they are broken. The most fundamental right of a human person is being denied. Just to see that again and again is still surprising when I go into clinics,” she said.
Through undercover videos, Live Action has exposed some law-violating actions going on at abortion clinics. Some of these violating actions are misinformation that is being told to the mother before she has an abortion. This misinformation uses deceptive phrases like “heart tones” instead of “heartbeats.” Clinics will even tell the mothers that the fetus is not “alive" until seventeen to eighteen weeks. After several of Live Action’s the videos were released, a few abortion clinic workers were fired due to the misinformation they gave out to patients. Former Planned Parenthood clinic director Abby Johnson quit her job after seeing an abortion of a thirteen-week-old fetus. In one of Live Action’s videos, Johnson talks about the misinformation. “[Abortion clinic workers] don’t want to necessarily talk about all the aspects of fetal development. They don’t want to talk about when your baby has a heartbeat. They don’t want to give the women information that could make that connection, that could give her a connection with her baby,” said Johnson.
In the Live Action video, doctors and nurses at the abortion clinics don’t even dare to use the word baby, opting instead to refer to it as a fetus. Sometimes the professionals say that it isn’t a baby until it is six or seven months into the pregnancy, sometimes even until birth. The doctors were caught making the statement that having an abortion is safer than having a baby and even that people die giving birth. Statements like these may “scare” women into having an abortion. Live Action has been nailing the investigations on the head with not just one but many undercover videos to prove that the misinformation and lying is not going on only in one location, but all over the country. Time after time, Planned Parenthood workers are caught saying that they wouldn’t say anything that would get a young girl in trouble for having an illegal abortion. Live Actions’ continuing efforts to expose Planned Parenthood’s misinformation and abuse has pierced through Planned Parenthood’s armor and brought to light what illegal activity goes on at many Planned Parenthood clinics. Despite Live Action’s efforts, Planned Parenthood is renovating a six story building in Houston, making it the largest abortion clinic in the U.S. Live Action and similar pro-life groups have a big challenge ahead of them in foiling the illegal activities of these clinics and shutting them down.
Through all of the investigations, Rose has seen the impact God has had on the Live Action investigations. As Rose stated, “One of the biggest impacts has been just seeing the power of truth. Through God, all things are possible.” Live Actions’ continuing efforts to expose the illegal activity at Planned Parenthood clinics continues to be a testament to God’s truth and justice.
