Did Anyone See That?

During the day there are a lot of things that happen, but people are sometimes too focused on a single thing. People pay attention to things that are the main attraction, like at a magic show. The magician has the audience’s full attention on a hat when the trick is actually going on two feet away from him, but no sees it because they are looking at his hat.

In my blog I want to draw people’s eyes away from this “hat” and write about the influential things they might have missed. The subject may be news, current events, movies, or sports. The whole purpose is to get people to look around and not just looks at the thing everyone else sees but sees the most important thing that is not as noticeable. My first subject is the very hated New York Yankees.

The baseball playoffs are all around us and they are heating up. Personally I love the Yankees; don’t blame me, it runs in my blood. The teams in the playoffs are the Yankees, Dodgers, Angels, and Phillies. These teams might seem innocent, but people need to look at the numbers. In Major League Baseball there is no salary cap. That means that teams can spend as much as they want on any player. In other leagues such as the NBA and NFL there is a salary cap, which means teams can only spend a limited amount of money on players. Not having a salary cap means that the team that has the most money can buy the best players, have the best coaches, and pay the best scouts. This is all too true for the Yankees. They have a total payroll of $208,097,414 and they have the most wins this season. This is no surprise that the Angles Dodgers and Phillies are all in the top 12 teams in payroll. This is not what the MLB wants. They want all teams to have a chance to win the World Series. A team on the other end of the spectrum is the Pittsburg Pirates. This year the pirates have a total payroll of about 25 million, which is five million short of Alex Rodriguez’s salary alone. That is why leagues that have a salary cap have more competitive leagues. This is what people are not seeing--that the people with the most money and the biggest pockets will survive. The teams with a 30 million dollar payroll will not win the World Series. It is sad, but it is the truth. MLB teams that have so much money they can throw it in the air will win the World Series. Sorry little guy.

Ground Zero Mosque: With Freedom Comes Great Responsibility

From the moment that news broke concerning the proposed one hundred million dollar, thirteen story, Islamic mosque and community center a few hundred feet from the location of the New York City twin towers, I became both incredibly shocked and dumbfounded.  Though I am all in favor for expressing...

Welcome to the Revelation Update

No. No, no, no, no, no. This day was never supposed to come. For two years I’ve stood steadfastly by the claim that the Revelation would NEVER get its very own website up and running due to the sheer amount of time and effort required--far more than I would have ever expected from the newspaper’s...

Buffalo?

One day, after many long hours of strenuous housework, my dad decided he wanted to take everyone out to this restaurant called Salt Grass Steakhouse. I had been there before, and to say the least, I wasn't impressed. However, I decided I would give Salt Grass one more chance. I scoured the menu for minutes,...

Miss Perspectives

I understand your time is valuable. I realize you might rather hear about what the President's been up to these days, how atrociously popular Megan Fox is in her newest movie, or what ten simple steps you can take to lose those awful twenty extra pounds all while making your life eco-friendly. However,...

Journalism Today

Oscar Wilde once stated, “In America, the president reigns for four years, and journalism governs for ever and ever.” I don’t know about you, but this makes me a little nervous. Media is in a pretty scary place these days. Newspapers report only what the people want to hear, and the recently,...
